Spanning 21 years of combined experience in hospitality, high-end residential, retail design, architecture and construction, Norman has established a diverse portfolio of successful and award-winning projects in Southeast Asia and China.
He was the lead designer for The Siam Kempinski, Bangkok that garnered the Perspective Awards for Best New Hotel in 2011. Recently, he also led the design teams and provided creative directions for large hotel projects in China including the soon-to-open Hilton Futian in Shenzhen and JinLing Hotel in Nanjing.
Among the first hotel projects Norman worked on upon entering the world of hospitality design was The Fullerton Hotel, a landmark project in Singapore. Norman was the lead designer for the Pan Pacific Resort in Palau, Micronesia and The Grand Indonesia Kempinski guest rooms and spa in Jakarta. His other notable projects include The Sydney Harbour Marriott, The Westin Shanghai, The Four Seasons Jakarta – Ballroom and Spa, The Peak Residences in Jakarta and The Sheraton Taipei Hotel public spaces.
Norman joined HBA in 1998. The year was a milestone for the Singapore office of HBA which endured the Asian financial crisis and went through a new beginning as a design firm. With the restructuring of the office came the revitalization of its expertise in hospitality design including luxury hotels, resorts and high-end residential work. Backed by his solid technical background and architectural training, Norman worked with the Singapore team in expanding the office’s portfolio of world-class projects in the region. There, his creative passion was nurtured in designing a number of international projects and the many facets of hospitality design.
In 2008 while in Australia, Norman was also tasked to set up HBA’s production office in the Philippines. From a small office of 10 staff then, it has grown to more than 200 staff made up of architects, interior designers and graphic designers. Australia was home to Norman for 8 years before moving to Manila in 2013. Fuelled by an intense passion for design, he worked with the HBA Global Group to establish HBA Manila. In his current role as Director - HBA Manila, he infuses HBA’s DNA into the firm, bringing with him years of international industry experience to forge a new direction for the Manila team in producing the highest level of inspired design.

Norman strongly believe design should always be concept-driven, defined not just by function but also by the location of the project.
As a designer, his travels to Southeast Asia, China, Asia Pacific, USA and Europe have been a valuable source of inspiration. His love of jazz music could only be rivaled by his passion for great design.
He explains “Good design is like a well composed Jazz pieceâ€. Aside from technical ability, a jazz musician creates depth; the articulation of the notes is fuelled by emotion.
